*IMPORTANT* Athena Update Affecting Clinical Workflows: Enhanced Diagnosis Feature Roll-Out

Dear MFM Providers and Clinical Support Teams,

We would like to inform you about the upcoming changes to the Enhanced Diagnosis feature in AthenaHealth, which will be rolled out for our practice tomorrow - April 30th, 2025. Please review the key updates below and take note of what to expect.  There is additional information available in the attached documents.

Key Updates to Watch Out for:

Rollout and Availability:

  • The Enhanced Diagnosis feature will be rolled out to our practice by athena on April 30th

Enhanced Diagnosis Search Tool:

  • The new search tool now allows you to search for diagnoses using familiar medical terminology, in addition to SNOMED terminology.

  • Guided refinement will help you select the most specific diagnosis, improving documentation accuracy.

  • HCC tags and RAF scores will be visible during the search and when adding diagnoses.

  • ICD-10 codes are automatically mapped to the selected diagnosis, streamlining the coding process.

Changes in the Chart Sections:

  • The Surgical History section has been renamed to Surgical & Procedure History. Moving forward, all procedures must be documented in this section.

  • The Family History section will continue to use SNOMED terminology for searches.

New Workflow for Adding Diagnoses:

  • The Enhanced Diagnosis search tool allows you to add diagnoses from the Assessment & PlanDiagnoses & Orders Cart, and Surgical & Procedure History sections.

  • Some diagnoses will need to be further specified using the guided refinement process to achieve the highest level of specificity.

Impact on Quality Management:

  • The updates to diagnosis management may affect quality measures that rely on SNOMED procedure codes. From now on, all procedures will be entered under the Surgical & Procedure History section.

Please take some time to familiarize yourself with these changes. This new feature is designed to enhance your workflow, improve diagnosis accuracy, and support better patient care. If you have any questions or need assistance, feel free to reach out to the MFM Management Team at managementteam@mfmhealth.com.

We have created videos for you to review this new workflow, including how to manually push

diagnoses to the patient's Problem List.
